The Hong Kong Institute of CPAs published a series of books, as part of its "Rich Kid, Poor Kid" financial education programme, to nurture the younger generation to be financially responsible.
The May Moon Books include three storybooks and a book of tips for parents:
1. May Moon and the Secrets of the CPAs /《美滿的CPA秘笈》
2. May Moon Rescues the World Economy
3. May Moons Book of Choices /《美滿抉擇之書》
4. How to Raise a Money-Wise Child /《財智兒童養育法》
The heroine May Moon in her first adventure learns the money secrets of CPAs from a talking book. Through her trials and tribulations, she also finds out that earning money is important, but getting a lot of it is not the secret of happiness.
In her two sequels, May Moon works with other children and certified public accountants to find solutions to economic problems – to find a way to rescue the world economy – using the wisdom only children have and adults can learn again; and she also helps her friends learn about ethics, money morals and how to make right choices when it comes to money matters.
The May Moon series also includes a Hong Kong-centric guide for parents teaching children between the age of three to 12, covering such topics as what to do with lai see money, how much allowance is enough or too much, cultivate the right attitude towards "need" and "want", money rewards for grades and chores, and more.
The May Moon Books won the gold award for custom publications in the International Mercury Awards for communications excellence.
